Nomadic Studies is published annually by the International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations under the auspices of UNESCO. Established in 2000, the journal aims to further IISNC's mission of building an international and multidisciplinary network for nomadic studies, by disseminating research that addresses the needs and concerns of nomadic communities, supports the safeguarding of nomadic cultural heritage, and promotes intercultural dialogue.
Beginning with Volume 23 (2023), Nomadic Studies is shifting to an online-first, open access publication format. The journal's updated format is expected to enhance both the quality and accessibility of knowledge shared among scholars, practitioners, and members of nomadic communities.
Nomadic Studies currently accepts submissions in the following sections: "Research Articles", "Reports", "Dialogue", "Proceedings", and "Reviews". See our Submissions page for details and to submit to any of these sections.
